1. How are seafarers' paid?

Seafarers' are paid monthly wages based on the salary scale stipulated in their CBAs or employment agreement.

2. Is the wages or salary always in US dollar?

No, the currency varies depending on the CBAs or Employment Agreements, however most of the Filipino seafarers employed by foreign principals are paid in USD dollars.

3. How is the monthly wages paid to the Seafarers?

The common practise among Filipino seafarers is that monthly wages are paid by means of allotment, however there are Principals who pay Filipino seafarers onboard or a combination of allotment and payment onboard.

4. What is an allotment?

Allotment is the Seafarers' monthly wages remitted to their designated allottees or dependents based in the Philippines.

5. How much is the monthly allotment(s) to be given to the allottee(s)?

As stipulated in the Standard POEA Employment Contract t, the allotment or the money to be remitted to the allottee(s) should be at least 80% of the Basic Salary of the seafarer.

6. How is the allotment received by the allottee(s)?

Allottee(s) received their allotment(s) thru Philippine banks duly accredited by the manning agent(s). In the case of Bahia Shipping, all allotments are deposited to the allottee(s)' accounts' every last working day of the month. Allottee(s) received their allotments in Philippine peso and not in US dollar.

7. What is the exchange rate used by the manning agents in converting the allotment(s) from US dollar to Philippine Peso?

The exhange rate varies from time to time. The exchange rate used is based on the bank's exchange rate on the date the payroll money is deposited by the foreign Principals to the manning agent's Philippine based bank.

8. What are the banks use by Bahia Shipping Services in the remitting the allotment(s) of their seafarers?

Bahia Shipping's partner banks are Banco de Oro,PNB and BPI.

9. What are the deductions made on the allotment?(s)?

Deductions in the allotment varies from one Principal to another, depending on what is stipulated in the CBAs or Employment Agreement.
